The Timeless Game of Naval Strategy

Battleships is one of the best-known pencil-and-paper games in history, played by generations of families long before it appeared on computers. Each commander secretly positions a fleet of five warships on a 10×10 grid, then takes turns firing at coordinates, calling out "hit!" or "miss!" until one fleet is sent to the bottom of the sea.

At Battleships Online we've brought that classic duel to your browser. You and the computer admiral each command a Carrier, a Battleship, a Cruiser, a Submarine, and a Destroyer. Every new battle places the fleets in fresh random positions, so no two games are ever the same. Read the waters, track your shots, and sink every enemy vessel before it sinks yours.

How a Battle Works

When a new game starts, both fleets are placed automatically in secret random positions. On your turn, click any square on the enemy grid to fire. The game tells you instantly whether you scored a hit or a miss, and announces when an entire ship has been sunk. Then the AI fires back at a random square on your grid. The first commander to sink all five enemy ships wins the battle.

New to the game? Our How to Play guide walks you through the rules, the fleet, and a few time-tested strategies for finding ships faster. It takes about two minutes to read.
